Great Collectors of Our Time: Art Collecting Since 1945

James Stourton, Scala, 2008

While after WWII in1945 Paris was still the center of art, during the shift of the center from Europe to America, the interest of American collectors shifted to the historical artworks of the mainland Europe.

In early 20th century, people collected to decorate their homes. But in the middle of the century, famous collectors like the Rockefellers and Guggenheims chose to exhibit their collections to the public in museums and galleries. This book presents many artworks by artists including Picasso, Ingres and Goya collected by these famous names.

The book documents this shift of focuses and the adventure of the 20th century art collector.
