MR. TURNER (BAY TURNER)

Director: Mike Leigh, 2014, Runtime: 150 min.
Stars: Timothy Spall, Paul Jesson, Dorothy Atkinson

Mike Leigh carries the final 25 years of the English painter J.M.W. Turner, who was one of the pioneers of the impressionist movement during the 19th century, to the silver screen. While focusing on the production process of the artist's works, the film also reflects his unconventional relations with his father and her housekeeper that may also be the mother of his children, and also paints us a panorama of the economic structure, life style and cultural transformations of London, during the era. Timothy Spall, who starred as J.M.W. Turner on the movie screen won the "Best Actor" award at the Cannes Film Festival with this role in 2014, and the film is nominated for four Academy Awards.
